3rd Street North Reconstruction Project

IMPROVEMENTS TO 3RD STREET N WILL INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING:

 

• Surface improvements to 3rd Street N and part of 14th Ave N that borders the fairgrounds- This will include new pavement and curb and gutter.  Road will also be updated to two driving lanes and a parking lane.
• Sidewalk - Full reconstruction of existing sidewalk on the north side, east of 10th Street, and extending the sidewalk on the north side to the fairgrounds at 14th Ave.  This will include installation of pedestrian ramps.
• Full removal and expansion of storm sewer.
• Full removal and replacement of sanitary sewer - Sanitary sewer is currently in need of full replacement due to conditions of existing pipe, the City has spent time and resources over the last several years repairing sewer leaks.  This will include upgrade of existing sanitary sewer services in the right of way.  
• Full removal and replacement of water main - This will include an upgrade of existing water services in the right of way.

8/13/2026 Update: 

Construction Look Ahead:

• August 17: Temporary water will be hooked up to the houses outside on spigots.
• August 18: Sanitary sewer construction will start on 7^th Ave. and move towards 10 Ave.

Access will be limited where excavation is occurring throughout the day and alternate routes will be required. Access to properties will be maintained at the end of each workday.

Crews are continuing to mobilize construction equipment in the project area. Please use caution. Thank you for patience and cooperation during construction.

 

8/6/2026 Update:
Work being done between 7th Ave to 10th Ave:
 •   August 5: Crews will begin roadway reclaiming and removal work. This work is expected to take approximately 2-3 days to complete
 •   Week of August 10: Crews will begin installing the temporary water system and mobilizing equipment needed for upcoming watermain and sanitary sewer replacement work.
 •   August 12 (tentative): Crews are scheduled to begin sanitary sewer excavation and replacement work.

Residents can expect increased construction traffic and equipment in the project area as work gets underway. Access impacts and additional construction updates will be provided as work progresses and schedules are confirmed.
** Please note that this will not impact the Fair. All fair entrances will be open and accessible.

 

7/30/2026 Update:

Beginning Monday, August 3, the road will be closed to thru traffic from 7th Ave to 10th Ave.  The road is scheduled to re-open by the end of September. Crews will reclaim the roadway on August 5.  Concrete curb will be removed in this area on August 6 and 7. On Monday, August 10, crews will start removing the reclaimed material, setting up temporary water, and starting sanitary sewer removal and installation.
