Welcome to the City of Princeton!
The City of Princeton is located 50 miles north of the Twin Cities on Highway 169 and 30 miles east of St. Cloud on Highway 95. Princeton covers 5.18 square miles of land.
Princeton is a statutory city with a Mayor/Council form of government. The mayor serves a 2-year term. The four councilpersons are elected at large for staggered, 4-year terms. City Hall houses the City Administration, Finance, and Community Development in one section of the building and the Police Department in another section.
The City Council normally meets in the Council Chambers of City Hall at 7 PM on the 2nd and 4th Thursdays of each month with a “study session at 4:30 on the 1st Thursday of the month.
Citizen committees work to help give the Council added input into decision making. Those committees include the Planning Commission, Economic Development Authority, Park and Recreation Advisory Board, Airport Advisory Board, and a Fire Advisory Board. While the individual members of the Princeton Public Utilities Commission are appointed by the City Council, the PUC is an independent agency that provides electric and water service to the City. The PUC is not operated under oversight of the City Council.
The City of Princeton is dedicated to providing friendly and efficient city services that enhance the quality of life for those who visit, work and live in the community. These services include: police protection, fire protection, street maintenance, sanitary sewer service, public cemetery, public utilities, zoning and building administration, community buildings, park maintenance, airport maintenance.
